ICE Compulsory Gear

Cold temperatures are expected during the first week of September and extreme weather changes can occur. Compulsory Gear List 1 is relevant to fair weather conditions and List 2, in case the forecast closer to the time turns colder.

List 1: Fair weather: Full distance 

  • Timing Card / Tracker
  • Running back pack with hydration bladder (min 2l)*
  • Own cup, the collapsible kind would be ideal. We do have water points, but no cups
  • Race food, plus additional to what you anticipate using
  • Light weight windbreaker / outer shell
  • Trail running shoes
  • Charged Cellphone
  • Survival blanket,
  • Adhesive bandage,
  • Whistle

Recommended kit: 

  • Cap
  • Sunscreen
  • Light weight fleece top

 

List 2: Cold Weather: Full distance 

  • Timing Card / Tracker
  • Waterproof jacket preferably with hood
  • Thermal Base layer
  • Thermal beanie / buff
  • Running back pack with hydration bladder (min 2l)*
  • Own cup, the collapsible kind would be ideal. We do have water points, but no cups
  • Race food, plus additional to what you anticipate using
  • Charged Cellphone
  • Survival blanket
  • Adhesive bandage
  • Whistle

 

At higher altitude, ie lower air pressure moisture evaporates  more quickly from your skin.So, even when you’re working hard and sweating profusely, you may have little visible sign of perspiration on your body. it’s hard to actually tell how much water you’re losing.While this may make it hard to gauge your hydration levels, it also means you need more water to stay hydrated than you would at a lower altitude where the air is thick and humid.  (by Ashley Arnorld – Nathan)
