Are you ready for a different type of trail run?
TrailAdventure, in conjunction with Afriski Mountain resort bring you the 3222 Stage Trail Runs in the magnificent Lesotho Highlands. A summer and winter event, 3222 Ice, both provide bucket list conditions. Both are two day events, physically and mentally challenging but with the option of a Mini3222, suitable for the whole family.
At a lung busting 3222m above sea level it is one of the highest altitude stage trail runs in Southern Africa in the northern parts of the Drakensberg-Malutis.
Expect the usual TrailAdventure fun family orientated experience, on a grand scale. The event venue, the popular Afriski Mountain Resort, is the highest point in the area offering both accommodation and adventure activities, all year round. All 3222 routes are circular in nature, starting and ending at the resort. This allows us to cater for all, with a kiddie’s entertainment area and a hub of activities for those who are not participating in the race.
The full distance 3222 run over 25km and 15km consists of technical rocky terrain with steep ascents and descents. The mini, 10km and 5km distance sounds deceptively easy, but should not be underestimated. Some challenging ascents on both jeep and single track will test you if you want to take it fast. You are welcome to walk the Mini3222. Take in the detail of the awe-inspiring landscape and unusual fauna and flora.
The 3222 Ice is expected to offer you the additional challenge of snow and ice en-route. Experienced snow runners offer the number one piece of advice: when training for a snow event, count the kilometres as double and strength train extensively as a whole bunch of different muscles are engaged.
Mountain streams, waterfalls, incredible rock formations, stunning views, sounds and silence make for an incredible experience. Challenge your body and mind but let Mother Nature rejuvenate your spirit in the ‘Kingdom of the Sky’.
Even the drive to Afriski from Gauteng and Durban is shorter than one expects. The border crossing is quite fast. All you need is a passport. The main road from the Caledonspoort border post is in great condition and a pleasure to drive.
Enjoy a weekend in the ‘Kingdom of the Sky’
